Someone across the table rolls the dice, says "哇,好爛", and then repeats it in English for you. Everyone laughs, and now you know a new phrase. That's pretty much how the night goes.
Games are the icebreaker
This is a casual board game meetup in Zhongshan for locals and internationals who want to meet people without standing around making small talk. You sit down, pick up a game and play. Conversations start on their own, in English, Mandarin or somewhere in between. If you're studying either language, practising over a game beats practising with an app.
한국어, 日本語 and other languages are welcome at the table too. The main languages for the night are English and Mandarin.
The essentials
The fee is paid per person, and the green tea refill is free.
Finding the room
The meetup is in Room 2, 5th Floor, Hua The Building, No. 575, Linsen North Road, Zhongshan District, Taipei. It's a short walk from Zhongshan Elementary School MRT Station.
地址:台北市中山區林森北路575號5樓2室(近捷運中山國小站)
Make a night of it
Shuangcheng Street Night Market is close by, so you can eat there before you play or go for snacks after the last round. If you just made new friends at the table, bring them along.
Before you come
You must be 18 or older to join.
The organizer can amend, suspend, end or interpret the event at any time, and can refuse or cancel anyone's participation.
Bring some curiosity and maybe a few phrases from the language you're learning. Grab your spot and come play.
