Good conversation starts with people willing to think out loud—and listen. This bi-weekly Taipei meetup brings curious people together to explore one topic, question their assumptions, and get to know each other along the way.
Come alone. No preparation or philosophy background needed. The point is to practice critical thinking and communication together, not to show how many philosophers you’ve read.
Each meeting starts with a shared topic. You bring your own thoughts; others bring theirs. There’s no particular school of philosophy to follow and no approved answer to reach. Perspectives from religions or philosophical traditions are welcome, but never required.
When a group grows beyond 7–8 people, we split into smaller conversations so everyone has room to speak. Introduce yourself, share your first thoughts, then explore where the discussion leads. The jump-off questions are prompts, not homework or a checklist.
Topics and prompts are shared every Sunday in the WhatsApp group. They may also appear in the event comments, but WhatsApp is the place for session details and updates.
Please arrive during the opening 15 minutes. That’s the arrival grace period; coming later interrupts the conversation.
Cost: Attendance is free. If we meet in a café, please buy a beverage. Chapters using rented spaces may ask for help with rent, but any donation is entirely voluntary.
Coming on your own? You’re encouraged to. Meeting people is part of the purpose, not an extra you need to arrange beforehand.
Who attends? The club describes its meetups generally as having a roughly even gender mix; that isn’t a prediction of this Taipei session’s attendance.
Member Ekam values exploring beliefs through different perspectives without being told what’s right or wrong. Daniel recalls feeling at home from his first discussion, on authority, and appreciates having his views challenged with openness.
Beyond Taipei, Practical Philosophy hosts weekly in-person meetups in over 25 countries, including Canada, Spain, Japan, and Mexico. Explore other chapters.
Get explicit consent before privately messaging another member—for example, by speaking in person and receiving an invitation to message. Unsolicited private contact is prohibited and may lead to removal. Practical Philosophy reserves discretion to enforce this policy to protect a respectful community.
