Israel's ongoing genocide in Palestine keeps trying to silence Palestinian voices. Palestinian poets keep writing anyway. For them, a poem holds memory, takes back the story, and celebrates a culture that is still here.
So what can we do from Taiwan? This two-part gathering tries one answer. You read their poems, write your own and then read it aloud to a room that's firmly on your side.
Part one: read, talk, write
You'll start with poetry by and about Palestine, looking at how Palestinians have used verse as resistance. Then you'll move into a writing session and start a poem of your own. Rough drafts are welcome. That's the whole point.
Part two: the reading
This part is all about performance. Read the poem you wrote, or read an existing poem about Palestine. Please note that if you came to part one, you get first priority for a reading slot.
The original plan
You don't have to come to both sessions. Want to see where Session 1 was planned? Here's the NTU New Humanities building on the map.
The reading room
Daybreak 破曉咖啡 is in Wanhua. On reading night, come early, grab a drink at the café and find a seat. Things start right at 7:30. Open Daybreak in Google Maps.
