No philosophy degree needed. No reading list either. Practical Philosophy Taipei meets every two weeks to dig into one big question in small groups. The point is to sharpen how you think, get better at talking it through, and leave knowing a few more people in the city.
What YOU think, not what Kant thought
Each session has one topic. It goes out in the WhatsApp group every Sunday, along with a few jump-off questions to get things started. You don't have to answer them. They're there in case the conversation stalls.
Once there are more than 7–8 of us, we split into smaller groups. That keeps it a real conversation and stops it turning into a lecture. If your religion or school of thought has something to say about the topic, bring it. We don't follow one philosophy, and dogma stays at the door.
How the afternoon goes
You get a 15-minute grace period while people drift in. After that, please don't walk in mid-conversation. It throws off the flow.
Quick answers
Cost? Free. If we meet in a café, please buy a drink. If a chapter rents a space, it may ask for donations, and those are always 100% voluntary.
Prep? None needed.
Mostly guys? No. Turnout is usually about 50/50, and nobody meets in a candlelit dark room.
Where to find us
We strongly recommend joining the Taipei WhatsApp group. That's where topics, updates, and location details go out. Practical Philosophy runs in-person meetups in more than 25 countries. You can find other chapters on the locations page.
