Language Exchange 西門 (Ximen)

Practice the language you're learning over a pint, with people who want to practice yours. Every Friday night we take over The 58 Bar in Ximending for an easy, no-pressure language swap. Swap a little English for a little 中文 (or whatever else you've got), and stay as long as the conversation keeps going.

新場地 · New spot, same crew

We've moved! Our new home has hundreds of Taiwanese craft beers on the menu plus a lineup of British-style dishes. That's good news if your Mandarin runs on liquid courage, or if you just want proper bar food while you work on your tones.

Snacks are covered too: the owner sends out free fries or 魷魚絲 (shredded squid) on the night.

The $200 deal

Entry is free. Your first order just needs to come to at least NT$200, food or drink, and the full $200 counts toward what you order. After that, regular menu prices apply. Buying from the bar is what keeps our hosts happy and the event running, so thank you for chipping in.

Finding The 58 Bar

Take the MRT to Ximen Station, Exit 6. From there it's about a five-minute walk to Kaifeng Street. Come in, grab a drink, find a table, and say hi in whatever language feels easiest.
