Taiwan is an island full of port towns, but only one gets called the Harbor City. On this free walking tour with Like It Formosa, you'll find out why Kaohsiung earned that name, one stop at a time along the Gushan waterfront.
The route: six stops from temple to warehouse
01 Daitian Temple
02 Gushan Ferry Station
03 British Consulate at Takow
04 Kaohsiung Port
05 Binhai 1st Road
06 Kaohsiung Port Warehouse No.2
Kaohsiung was once called Takao. It began as a fishing village and grew into a hub for international trade in the 20th century. Today it's easy to write it off as just another big city, but the sea still shapes daily life here. Along the way your guide covers religion, foreign trade, a little politics, and the harbor's history right up to the present. You'll also hear how shipping by sea helped put Taiwan on the world map. The walk ends among the skyline views where the mountains meet the ocean.
