You show up knowing nobody. You leave with a few new friends, a couple of new phrases in another language, and maybe a rematch planned for next week.
That's the whole idea. Every Monday, locals and internationals in Taipei meet in a basement on Yitong Street to swap languages and play games. 每週一見,邊玩邊聊。
The games break the ice for you
The awkward "so... what do you do?" part doesn't last long when there's a shelf of around 500 board games behind you. Pick one, grab a few people, and start explaining the rules in whatever mix of English, 中文, and hand gestures gets the job done. Losing a round is great language practice, and so is arguing about who actually won.
Who you'll sit across from
New in Taipei? It's an easy way to meet people without having to plan anything.
Local and want to practice a language? Your future conversation partners are at the next table.
Just like board games? That works too. Nobody's grading your grammar.
You don't need to bring a partner, a group, or a level. Just come down the stairs and say hi. 一個人來也完全OK 😉
