It's 9AM on a Saturday. Someone hands you a knife and a crate of vegetables, and the person next to you, who you met about four minutes ago, is already telling you which MRT exit they got lost at.
By the end of the morning, everything you prepped together goes out as hot meals for the unhoused community at Taipei Main Station.
How the morning goes
SALT Kitchen is run by SALT Collectiv, a registered charity that gives locals and foreigners in Taipei a hands-on way to give back to the city they live in. The morning has three parts:
Prep and cook in the professional kitchen at 主耀廚房 Papa's Kitchen
Pack the meals together
Deliver them by hand at Taipei Main Station
You'll meet people along the way. That's the networking part, and it happens on its own when you're sharing a cutting board.
Getting there
Take the MRT if you can. There's a public car park near the kitchen, but parking at Taipei Main Station is hard to find, and every minute spent circling the lot means the meals get handed out later.
Yes, it's Halloween. No costume needed, but an apron counts as one. 🎃
