Someone unmutes and asks the question they've been chewing on all week. Suddenly a person in Berlin has a take, someone in Dubai has a counter-take, and the next forty minutes go somewhere nobody planned. That's how this works.

Your questions set the agenda

This is an open conversation about world events and affairs. We're here to understand things better, not to win arguments. The format is free flow, so we start with whatever participants bring. There's never a shortage of topics, but your questions go first.

We run the session online together with our sister clubs in Dubai, London and Berlin, so you'll hear from people in several time zones and at several distances from the news.

A rough map of the three hours

If nobody steers the conversation somewhere else, it usually goes like this. Expect overlap, because the world doesn't stay in its lanes either.

You can join or leave whenever you like. Stay for one region or all three.

House rules (there are only a few)

• Cameras stay off by default. You might turn yours on to introduce yourself, but it's optional.

• No recordings of any kind. We value free thinking, and people speak more freely when they know nothing is being recorded.

• The Chatham House Rule applies. You can use what you hear, but don't say who said it.
