Somewhere between the old shophouses of Dadaocheng and the weekend, there's a room where the band is local, the solos are live, and nobody's quite sure where the next tune is going.
For people who stay for the second set
You know who you are. You hum the bass line before the head comes back around. You're the one who goes "oh, nice" quietly when the pianist re-harmonizes something. Or maybe you just like a drink with a good soundtrack that isn't a playlist. Either way, you're in good company here.
Jazz Thursdays brings live jazz from local musicians to The Library Bar, tucked into one of Taipei's most storied neighborhoods. Some of the best moments aren't on any chart. Once things open up into spontaneous jam sessions, the night starts writing itself.
What's on the bandstand
Local players. Taipei musicians on the stand, playing in a room where you can hear every ride cymbal.
Jams that wander. Tunes stretch, trade fours and take turns nobody planned.
A historic backdrop. Dadaocheng's old streets are right outside, so a pre-show stroll counts as part of the evening.
Finding the room
The Library Bar sits at 65 Xining North Road in Yongle Village, Datong's corner of old Taipei. Follow the sound of a walking bass and you should be close.
Pull up a seat and see where the music goes tonight.
