You don't need to sign up or have a perfect accent. Just turn up on Wenzhou Street on a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday night, grab a free cup of tea, and talk. Most nights bring 20–50 people practicing English and Mandarin with each other, and most of them walked in without RSVPing.
How the night runs
Three hours, two languages, and a switch every 45 minutes:
19:00 ┬ round 1 ─ 45 min
├ switch!
├ round 2 ─ 45 min
├ switch!
├ round 3 ─ 45 min
├ switch!
└ round 4 ─ 45 min
22:00 done. 辛苦了!
English and Mandarin each get 90 minutes in total. The order changes from night to night, so be ready to flip from "How long have you lived here?" to 「你住台北多久了?」 at short notice. Practicing Japanese, Spanish or something else? That's fine during any round too.
What it costs
Entry is NT$170, and you can bring that down:
−NT$20 if you follow the event's Facebook page
another −NT$30 if you show a student ID
Black tea and green tea are free all night.
House rules
The team is small, so please help out:
Take your trash with you. If you brought it in, please take it home.
Keep it quiet on your way out. There are neighbors nearby.
You need to be 15 or older. This keeps the conversation tables working well for everyone.
