Saturday, 2:20 pm, in a classroom on NTNU's Gongguan campus. Someone you met ten minutes ago gets up to give a short speech they prepared. Their hands might shake a little. They finish anyway, and the room claps like they mean it. Then a few people share what went well and one thing to try next time.
That's Polaris Toastmasters. We're a small, friendly English-speaking club that started in 2020, and we meet every weekend to help each other speak with more confidence.
What happens in the room
Short prepared speeches from members working on their skills
Speaking activities that are fun and low-stakes
Helpful feedback, given kindly, so everyone gets a bit better each week
A friendly crowd where beginners and experienced speakers sit side by side
After the meeting
The friendships often outlast the meetings. Members go on social outings and outdoor trips together, so the people you practise with can end up being people you hike with.
Before you come
About the low RSVP count: most members sign up through our LINE group, so more people usually show up than the list here suggests. You won't be talking to an empty room.
Visitors are always welcome. Bring some cash for the guest fee and show up on Saturday. You'll get to know a few more people, and you might even give a speech.
